Good Wood win 7 A-Side Hockey Tournament

MIRI: Good Wood emerged champion after defeating SMK Sebauh Bintulu with 1- 0 in the Miri Open 7 A- Side Hockey Tournament final yesterday at the Youth Centre field here.

President of Sarawak Hockey Associatio­n ( SHA) Datin Mary Sadiah Zainudddin presented the champion trophy to Good Wood team plus cash prize of RM1,000 and medals.

The prizes for the second winner were RM500 cash and medals.

Two hockey teams from Kolej Tun Datu Tuanku Haji Bujang ( KTDTHB) Miri and Bintulu Hawk shared the third placing for the tournament.

Each of the team received RM250 and medals.

Mar y s a id the t wo - d ay tournament was Ooganised by Miri Warrior Hockey Club as part of the celebratio­n for the birthday of Head of State and King Birthday attracted 16 teams.

Speaking at the prize giving ceremony, Mary hoped the club could help set up the Miri Division Hockey Associatio­n to develop the sport in the Division.

“The associatio­n can coordinate the developmen­t programme and activities to boost the hockey developmen­t in this Division,” she said.

She told the club that Sarawak Hockey Associatio­n will assist them in their effort to set up the Divisional associatio­n.

Also present were SHA vice president Claudia Ragina Janting, secretary general Kangot Awan, Sarawak hockey coach Sivasubram­aniam Chellappah and Miri City Council ( MCC)’s Councilor Karambir Singh.
