Clean water for 423 homes by year-end
MIRI: A total of 423 houses in Tudan Desaras, a resettlement area here, should be able to enjoy clean water supply by the end of this year.
Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting said it would take about three months to complete the installation of the main water pipe – just in time for Christmas.
“The project, which is under Rural Water Supply Department (JALB), costs RM713,380 and according to the department, the installation works will commence within this month,” he told reporters after launching the water piping project at the resettlement yesterday.
Ting said 281 of the families in Tudan Desaras are from Kampung Api-Api, while others are from Kampung Pasir and Kampung Merikan – each with 71 houses.
He thanked the contractor for its commitment in speeding up the implementation of the project to ensure that the people at Tudan Desaras could enjoy clean water supply before Christmas.
Nevertheless, he sought total cooperation from the villagers to demolish some of their structures such as store units as well as car sheds by the roadside so that the water pipe installation works could be carried out smoothly.
“The JBALB contractor will only conduct installation for the main pipe outside the houses and the Northern Area Water Board ( Laku) will continue with the installation works to the houses once the main pipe installation project is completed and handed over to Laku.”
At the same time, Ting apologised to the residents for the delay in implementing the project due to some problems.
“The state government actually has mapped out a development programme for Tudan Desaras, which would be implemented in stages.
“Once we have settled the clean water supply issue, the effort to deliver basic infrastructure to the area would be continued, with electricity supply first followed by good drainage and tar-sealing works on the gravel roads.
“The most important thing now is total cooperation from the residents so that the development agenda that have been planned can be implemented accordingly and successfully.”
Also present were representatives from JALB and Laku.
