The activities are a World First Aid Day celebration, World Blood Donors Day do and blood donors recognition lunch.

Publicity officer Huong Haw Ching said the World First Aid Day celebration programme will feature first aid scenario demonstrations for the public at Sibu Central Market from 8.30am to 9.30am.

Sibu Municipal Council chairman Datuk Tiong Thai King will officiate at the function.

Huong said the demonstration is to furnish members of the public with first- aid knowledge like cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and tactics to help save lives.

For the World Blood Donors Day programme, he said there will be a blood donation awareness campaign from 7.30am to 8.30am.

During the campaign, 1,000 brochures on blood donation will be given out to the public.

“The celebration, with the theme ‘ Give blood, give now, give often’, stresses the importance of giving blood to save lives,” he said.

From 8.30am to 2pm, a blood donation campaign will be held at Tanahmas Hotel, where 150 door gifts await those registering as blood donors.

A dialogue session between the blood donation campaign organisers and the public is scheduled for 10am until 11am.

Second Finance Minister and Minister of International Trade and E- Commerce Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh will launch a nationallevel blood donation campaign at the same venue where the blood donors recognition lunch is held.

The lunch will also witness the presentation of prizes to the winners of various blood donation competitions held throughout the state.

A total of 266 local donors will receive certificates of appreciation.

“They are those who donated blood last year,” Huong said, adding that some had donated at least 30 pints each over a year while some had donated as much as 125 pints.
