‘39,657 sitting for PT3 in Sarawak this year’
KOTA SAMARAHAN: A total of 39,657 candidates are sitting for their Form 3 Assessment ( PT3) in Sarawak this year, running until this Thursday ( Oct 12). The written examination, which commenced yesterday, involves 201 examination centres across the state.
According to state Education Department director Rakayah Madon, 38,237 candidates from the total 39,657 are from government and governmentassisted schools in Sarawak.
“The rest are 1,173 candidates from private schools, 13 individual candidates, 220 from schools under government agencies other that the Education Ministry, and 14 candidates from schools under the purview of the Welfare Department.

Of the 201 exam centres in Sarawak, 182 are full- f ledged government schools, 13 private schools, three Mara Junior Science Colleges ( MRSMs), while the remainder are ‘ Sekolah Pemulihan Akhlak’ (rehabilitation schools).
A survey yesterday on SMK Kota Samarahan here showed 401 PT3 candidates getting ready for the Bahasa Melayu and Mathematics papers – the first two subjects on the first day. They first gathered to recite prayers before entering the examination hall.
In his remarks to reporters, SMK Kota Samarahan principal Bujang Awang Jamain expressed his wish for all his students to do well in this year’s PT3.
The PT3 was introduced in 2014 to replace the Penilaian Menengah Rendah ( PMR) examination which in turn, was introduced in 1993 to replace Sijil Rendah Pelajaran ( SRP). This year, a total of 425,251 candidates are sitting for the examination all over the country.
