‘Six months’ before Lu Han breaks up

-

BEIJING: Wang Sicong, an entertainment CEO and the son of China’s wealthiest man Wang Jianlin of the Dalian Wanda Group, has predicted that actors Lu Han and Guan Xiaotong will break up within six months.

It is not known if Wang is a rival suitor, but he wrote online: “Luhan has a complicated private life. He’ll most likely break up with Guan Xiaotong within half a year. Watch him.”

Many of those posting comments on the Lu- Guo romance seem to agree. Some of the sceptical comments include: “Guan Xiatong is only 20 years old. They’re definitely not going to reach marriage”, “I don’t think they’ll last long”, “I guess it’s all like that in the entertainment industry”, “I think what Wang Sicong said is true.”

Fans have been weeping after heartthrob singer-actor Lu Han, 27, had unveiled Guo as his new girlfriend via a Weibo post.

Shocked fans went online to commiserate after Lu had written online: “Hello everyone, let me introduce you to my new girlfriend Guan Xiaotong.”

Within hours, the post had generated over five million likes. Since Weibo does not feature a dislike button, it is not known if actress Guo, 20, had received a deluge of hate messages.

It has been reported that overnight, Lu lost several million fans. Even with the “unfriending” frenzy, Lu still has a huge number of followers online – some 41 million.

The sheer volume of comments following Lu’s bombshell announcement clogged up Weibo’s servers. Some servers crashed.

For several hours, users could not log in. For the weeping fans eager to post more invective, the hassle was doubly annoying.

Support technicians for Weibo later confirmed that Lu’s announcement had led to the outage.

In China, not many celebrities can claim that a single post could lead to the crashing of servers.

Lu and Guan star in the TV drama Sweet Combat. They portray students in a sports school who fall in love.

On Weibo, Guan has over 20 million followers. It is not immediately known if millions have “unfriended” her in the aftermath of Lu’s shocking announcement.

Ding Zhenkai, a Weibo user who describes himself as a programmer at the site, said even though it was his wedding day, he had to clock in to deal with the breakdown.

Later, he posted a picture from his workplace, saying “The server is back on and my fatherin-law is calling me to drink with him. Look at the trouble Lu caused!”

In the photo, he is working on a computer while dressed in a wedding suit and corsage.

Some of Lu’s hopeful fans – who are clearly sobbing and in denial – are now claiming that it’s a publicity stunt because Sweet Combat is about to premiere, and the announcement was a surefire way to boost ratings.

Last April, Lu had posted a picture of himself beside a mailbox in Shanghai. The mailbox soon became a social media hit, with fans lining up for 200 to 300 metres to take selfies at the location.

Amazingly, some fans had to queue up until 4am the following day.

Yesterday, no fans with trays of eggs were lining up outside Lu’s apartment.
