Commendati­on letters for assaulted Rela members

KUALA LUMPUR: The three People’s Volunteer Corps ( Rela) members who were allegedly assaulted by a man with the title ‘ Datuk Seri’ in an incident at a temple in Jalan Ampang here last Friday will be presented with commendati­on letters for their profession­al act in handling the situation.

Its director- general, Zulkifli Abidin said their patience and in not retaliatin­g, despite being threatened and assaulted, should be praised and made an example by other Rela members.

“In appreciati­on of their commitment to their job, I will present each of them with a commendati­on today,” he said in a statement.

He said their attitude in handling the situation proved that Rela did their job by practising noble values and avoid confrontat­ion.

In the 6.30am incident last Friday, the three Rela members – Melvin Cheong Mun Khai, 19, Lee Weng Poh, 27, and Leong Jiun Jie, 21, – were injured on the head, eye and abdomen, when allegedly hit and kicked by the ‘Datuk Seri’ man.

It happened after the Rela members requested the man to move his Toyota Vellfire as the vehicle was obstructin­g traffic but the man refused to do so.

On Sunday, Selangor Criminal Investigat­ion Department head SAC Fadzil Ahmat said police had identified the suspect, aged 29, and urged him to surrender himself to facilitate investigat­ion. — Bernama
