Jobless man jailed 10 days, fined RM10,000 for theft of computer parts

KUCHING: A jobless man was slapped with a RM10,000 fine and sentenced to 10 days in prison by the magistrate’s court here yesterday for stealing computer components two months ago.

Chan Kwang Hui, 42, had pleaded guilty to the charge framed against him under Section 380 of the Penal code.

He admitted to having 46 computer components from a computer shop at a shopping mall in the city at about 9.30am on Sept 9 this year. The offence was committed with another person, Fariz Abdullah, who had pleaded guilty earlier.

On Sept 18, Fariz was sentenced to 18 months’ jail and fined RM1,000 for committing the same offence.

It was said the two men had entered the premises by breaking the window, the act caught on security cameras.
