Stranded fisherman found safe at sea

-

LAWAS: A fisherman was found safe on Monday following the failure of his outboard engine at sea earlier the same day.

The 37-year- old from Kampung Awat-Awat, Sundar had initially gone out to sea alone around 6.30am to check on his fishing net, but failed to return that evening.

A spokesperson from the Fire and Rescue Department ( Bomba) said villagers launched a search for the fisherman around 7pm and were able to locate him 40 minutes later, some 30km from shore.

“The victim said he experienced engine failure while at sea and was unable to contact anyone for help as he did not bring along his mobile phone.

“Eight villagers in three boats departed to search for him and found him between 10 to 15 nautical miles from the village,” said the spokesperson yesterday.
