Be prepared for challenges, school leavers told
MIRI: SMK Dato’ Permaisuri ( SMK DP) students are urged to seize the opportunity for selfimprovement and be prepared to face any challenges after leaving high school.
Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting gave this advice at SMK DP’s excellent students and graduation ceremony held at a hotel here yesterday.
In his speech, Ting reminded the students that their journeys have just started and there are many things to learn and face in the outside world.
“Today is your day and this ceremony is to acknowledge your hard work and serve as a motivation for you and other students to strive to achieve success in life.
“The young generations is our future leaders and I know each one of you here will do well; and the years you spend at SMK DP provide an excellent foundation to prepare you for what you are going to face outside in the challenging world,” he told more than 500 students, teachers, parents and other guests at the ceremony yesterday.
Ting applauded principal Haslinda Jedi for her endless effort in transforming the school since she was transferred here in March this year.
“Haslinda was serving at one of the top schools in Miri and Sarawak, that is SM Sains Miri and now she is with SMK DP to share her experience and skills for its betterment - I can see the transformation she has brought.
“When you transform yourself, you bring yourself up like today while wearing the robe and the square hat, I am sure you feel good about yourself and I hope you will remember this day to further motivate yourself,” he said, adding that he would help the 45-year- old school in any way he can.
Fifth former cum assistant prefect Nicol Chung Xin Yan was honoured with the ‘Pencapaian Terbilang Permaisuri 2017’ and among her awards were ‘Permata Merit’, ‘Nilam’, Best Student in Class and Best Subjects: Mathematics, History, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Additional Maths.
Also present were chairperson of SMK DP’s Parent-Teacher Association, Suif Alias; Zambri Zainal from Miri Education Office ( PPD) and Senior Assistant 1 Su Yien Jiong.
