Be more supportive of children’s school activities, parents advised

-

MIRI: Parents should be more supportive of their children’s activities in school as these are vital components of their formative years.

Sri Mawar Schools Steering Committee chairwoman Kuintan Mohd Sepawie made this call in her speech during Tadika Sri Mawar’s graduation cum musical concert at the civic centre recently.

“There are cases where parents, who are gravely concerned about their children’s health, call for their children to withdraw from taking part in activities at school like sports day and concerts.

“Personally, I understand this concern – the children’s health and safety is of utmost importance.

“Still, we would like to seek cooperation and understanding from the parents in letting their children participate in these activities, which can help them not only to develop physically but also enhance their ability to interact with their peers more effectively,” she said.

The world, according to Kuintan, has become more competitive than it was decades ago, in that focusing solely on academic achievements would no longer help the children in charting their paths for the future.

“Perhaps, it is time for the parents to look at other aspects like social and communication skills needed to develop them (children) into good adults.”

Tadika Sri Mawar headmistress Evelyn Woodford, Sri Mawar Primary School headmistress Roslawati Ahmad and its senior administrative executive Ngui Hui Lin were among those who attended the concert, which involved over 200 pupils from Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 classes as well as their teachers.

This was followed by a graduation ceremony of the school’s Level 3 pupils, who looked smart in their ceremonial robes and mortar boards.
