Gi­ant Su­per­mar­ket at Wisma Sanyan to close down this Nov 6

SIBU: The Gi­ant Su­per­mar­ket will close down its out­let on the ground f loor of Wisma Sanyan here this Nov 6.

An of­fi­cer of the retail chain dis­closed this yes­ter­day, adding that Nov 5 ( Sun­day) would be the last day of busi­ness for this branch, which opened its doors in 2003.

Ac­cord­ing to the of­fi­cer, who spoke un­der anonymity, the em­ploy­ees have been wait­ing for con­fir­ma­tion about the sta­tus of the Wisma Sanyan branch from the head­quar­ters.

Last week, Gi­ant brand owner GCH Retail ( Malaysia) Sdn Bhd in a press state­ment said it would cease the op­er­a­tions of five Gi­ant stores in Malaysia – Sri Man­jung, Sun­gai Pe­tani, Shah Alam City Cen­tre Mall, Wisma Sanyan in Sibu and Se­layang Lama – this Nov 5, fol­low­ing the leas­ing expiry for these premises.

GCH Retail also stated that it had re­viewed its op­er­a­tions and made the de­ci­sion to im­prove its ef­fi­ciency and pro­duc­tiv­ity.

“Gi­ant will re­lo­cate its Ber­cham store to a lo­ca­tion that is dou­ble the size of the Ber­cham store, to pro­vide more of­fer­ings and prod­ucts, as well as con­ve­nience for its cus­tomers.

“In ad­di­tion, GCH Retail will re-launch a new ex­cit­ing con­cept store by Cold Stor­age in KLCC by end of this year,” said the GCH Retail state­ment.
