SIBU: About 100 Indians and children from the Methodist Children’s Home attended the Malaysian Vijay Fans’ ( MVF) first movie screening at King’s Trioplex last Saturday.

The movie shown was the latest Vijay movie ‘Mersal’.

According to MVF Sarawak head Karthikgehyen Subramaniam, the screening was part of MVF’s yearly activities, and this was the first time MVF Sarawak took part in the activity.

“We invited not only our Indian friends and Vijay fans to the movie show, but children from Methodist Children’s Home.

“This was part of our charity programme,” he said, adding that a good number of members of the public also turned up for the show.

Karthikgehyen said the aim of the screening was to create a harmonious society among the races and foster friendship.

‘ Mersal’ was the first Tamil movie screened in Sibu since the last one was screened almost 30 years ago.

MVF is a registered nongovernmental organisation (NGO) and is an official fan club of actor Vijay in Malaysia.

“My president Sharmanath Raman and I want to thank Arasu from TSR Films and King’s Trioplex for making the screening of ‘ Mersal’ possible in Sibu,” he said.

As an NGO, MVF focuses on charity work. MVF Sarawak has done many charitable projects for the children’s home, longhouses and so on.

After this, he said, MVF Sarawak will go to rural schools to help create a more conducive learning environment for students.

“This project is called ‘Sillanthi Thittam’ ( project spider) in which MVF will give a facelift to rural school buildings.

“We have done two similar projects in Peninsular Malaysia,” he enthused.
