Irrfan Khan to star in Amazon’s political satire series
MUMBAI: Irrfan Khan is set to star in Indian political satire series ‘ The Ministry’, which will stream worldwide on Amazon Prime Video next year.
As one of India’s most recognisable names in Hollywood, Khan (‘ Life of Pi’, ‘Jurassic World’) will play a washed-up narcissistic Bollywood actor who is unwittingly appointed as temporary culture minister and battles various odds to “be loved by the masses once again.”
The Ministry is created by Gursimran Khamba, one of the founding members of wellknown Indian comedy collective All India Bakchod (AIB). The series will be co-produced by entertainment company Only Much Louder, which earlier inked a deal with Amazon Prime Video to produce 14 stand-up Indian comedy specials and an unscripted original series, Comicstaan.
Khan said that “it will be a great experience to be working on this show, which will be very topical and funny and will release globally on Amazon Prime Video.”
The actor has collaborated with AIB earlier on some comedy projects, such as spoof music video ‘Bollywood Party Song’.
Last year was a particularly busy year for Khan in Hollywood with two major titles, ‘ The Jungle Book’ and the Tom Hanks starrer ‘Inferno’.
The actor’s recent credits include art house title ‘ The Song of Scorpions’, in which he co- starred with Iranian actress Golshifteh Farahani, while his upcoming Bollywood release is romantic drama ‘ Qarib Qarib Single’, which is slated to open Nov 10.
