-

SIBU: Sibu Rural District Council ( SRDC) has resolved 79 per cent of the 105 complaints and requests received between July and September this year.

Its chairman Sempurai Petrus Ngelai disclosed that another 11 per cent are still in the process of rectification, while the remaining 10 per cent had been forwarded to other agencies.

Sempurai explained that the 105 complaints and requests were received from councillors, residents, village security and development committees (JKKK) as well as individuals within SRDC’s jurisdiction, and are part of the councillors’ key performance index ( KPI) from July to September.

He added the KPI report also showed that three councillors received and forwarded the most number of reports to SRDC, with councillors Kong Yii Tee

This shows that councillors do not only come for meetings as policy makers in the council, but are going to the ground to receive feedback or reports from residents to tackle problems first-hand. Sempurai Petrus Ngelai, Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) chairman

receiving and forwarding 26 reports, followed by Halima Japar ( 21) and Teo Boon Siew (11).

“This shows that councillors do not only come for meetings as policy makers in the council, but are going to the ground to receive feedback or reports from residents to tackle problems first-hand.

“To me, this is the way forward for all councillors to assist council staff in attending to people’s problems and requests before they snowball into complaints,” Sempurai said during a full council meeting here on Tuesday.

On a related matter, he observed that the council has achieved quite a number of its targets in the Local Key Result Areas ( LKRAs) and strategic planning for 2017-2020.

He said the first area that the council targeted was the efficiency of service delivery.

“With the increased public awareness on the council’s function and roles, councillors and council staff have to double their effort to meet the people’s expectations.”
