MaNIS a new big database for social issues

-

PUTRAJAYA: The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry yesterday launched its new National Information System for Social Issues ( MaNIS) which will function as a centralised data collection hub or big database for various social problems and issues in the country.

Minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim said MaNIS would allow the ministry to see the root of the social problems and issues.

“The planning of policies and programmes that will bring about positive impact to the public, especially the ministry’s target groups, will also be realised through data generated by MaNIS,” she said at the launch of the system during the ministry’s monthly assembly here yesterday.

Rohani said the implementation of MaNIS would focus on the development of portals for public and internal use, as well as the mapping of institutions and services offered by the ministry to the public and its target groups.

“Besides, it will also involve the development of mobile app for public complaints relating to the ministry’s target groups so that aid and assistance can be channeled faster and easier to them.” she said.

So far, 210 data reports on the ministry’s target groups had been made available in MaNIS, 21 of which related to data reports on persons with disabilities, women (64), children (36), senior citizens (23), disaster victims (10), hardcore poor (10), families (43) and nongovernmental organisations (3).

The minister said the development of the system, which began in June 2016, was expected to be completed by June 2018 as a continuity of the ministry’s Social Issues Database System (SPDIIS).

She said the rebranding of the SPDIIS to MaNIS was in line with the rapid development in the information communication technology and the aspiration to develop a system that is beneficial to many. — Bernama
