Fatimah urges Bomba volunteers to be ready to serve
DALAT: Members of Oya Subdistrict Bomba Community have been urged to be ready to serve the people in emergencies.
Dalat assemblywoman Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah made the request recently while officiating at a programme of the Community with members from eight villages.
Fatimah said she was glad to note the spirit of volunteerism among the villagers.
“Bomba Community is often the first group to respond to the emergency.
“In the event of a fire, the people in the frontline are the volunteers. Through your commitment and quick action, you can save lives and properties,” she said.
She also stressed the importance of the volunteers to stay healthy and fit while being alert to their surroundings.
Fatimah, who is also Welfare, Community Well Being, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister, expected the volunteers to be well trained.
“The volunteers must be given training from time to time so that they are ever ready to face any situation,” she suggested.
Also suggested were awareness activities for school children and villagers on fire prevention and proper reaction to a fire incident.
“Normally, fire is caused by wiring. This is the message we can tell our villagers. It is better to invest more on proper wiring than to lose everything in a fire,” she advised.
“Nanga Baoh which has nine longhouses in close proximity should also have a Bomba Community,” she suggested.
To the parents, Fatimah said they should monitor their children’s activities during the school holiday to ensure that they would not be involved in unhealthy activities.
On another front, she urged the village, security and development committees (JKKK) to install water pumps for their respective villages.
“I’ve pointed out to the JKKK last year that some of the allocation that I gave to each JKKK under the Kampung Transformation Programme ( KTP) must be used to install water pumps if you do not have any,” she added.
At the function, Fatimah handed out minor rural projects ( MRP) funds totalling RM485,900 to a number of organisations.
