43 final year Fajar students visit Bomba

MIRI: Forty three final year students from the Diploma in Occupation­al Safety and Health programme of Fajar Internatio­nal College made an educationa­l visit to the Balai Bomba Dan Penyelamat ( Fire and Rescue) at Lopeng here recently.

The objective of educationa­l visit to expose students on how the safe work procedures are practised in the daily operation of a firefighti­ng and rescue operations and to give students knowledge on the effective and efficient fire prevention and fire- fighting as well as humanitari­an services besides to create fire hazards and safety awareness.

Senior fire officer on duty, PBK II Jimmy Bin Suhaili welcomed the group and he hoped that students will gain knowledge and awareness on fire- fighting and rescue operations.

Fire officer PB Joyanto Jumaat continued with a short introducto­ry briefing on the standard operating procedure (SOP) of a fire-fighting and rescue operation and demonstrat­es on standard fireman safety rules and actions.

The students were given opportunit­y viewing the fire truck fitted with the latest, state of the art technology to help the fireman put out fire and carry out rescue missions.

Furthermor­e, the fire officer explained in the details about the various tools, machinery and equipment in the fire truck used for fire-fighting and rescue operations and also got to know some fire-fighting techniques and fire prevention tips.

Besides that, fire officer PB Mohd Zul Rizal Bin Tuahal also briefed the students on the importance of fireman’s pole which also called as a sliding pole or fire pole.

The students were also given opportunit­y to slide down the fireman pole by puts their arms around the pole, steps into the hole and use their legs to control the speed of the descent.

The visit ended with a splash, when the students were also allowed to take control of the water hose to douse an imaginary fire.
