Krista Stapok kindergarten tops national championship
KUCHING: Krista Stapok kindergarten here has made Sarawak proud by winning the National Championship for the Best Centre for IQ New Maths at an International and National IQ New Maths Competition cum LCT Mental Arithmetic Cup Competition held in Malacca in May this year.
There were more than 1,600 participants and over 70 schools and centres throughout Malaysia participating in the 18th competition held by the International Arithmetic Mathematics Association ( Iama).
Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang, who is Padawan Municipal Council ( MPP) chairman revealed this when representing Minister of Welfare, Community Well Being, Women, Family and Childhood Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah at the Krista Stapok concert and graduation held at the Islamic Information Centre here recently.
Lo reminded that besides academic proficiency, educational institutions including kindergartens should also strive to impart life’s lessons and values to the children through fun and hands-on learning activities in a safe and conducive environment.
“We seek to have our teachers maintain a close partnership and rapport with parents for that is best to promote the healthy development of our children,” Lo said.
“This competition has been in Malaysia for the last 18 years and for the first time this year, a Sarawak kindergarten has won the national-level contest,” he said.
Krista Stapok also won the Best Teacher category during the International and National IQ New Mathematics Competition in Malacca.
National champion Joel Reducto and the top five runners- up for three categories of the IQ New Mathematics were also acknowledged during the event.
Krista Stapok was also named one of the ‘ Best Centre’ during the state-level competition held at CityOne Megamall here recently.
Next year, Krista Stapok will be the first kindergarten in Kuching to implement and teach Science in the international syllabus.
Also present were International Arithmetic and Mathematics Association for East Malaysia vice president Loura Vun, principals and parents.
