‘BN leaders in better position to decide on next Mukah MP’
KUCHING: Dato Hanifah Hajar Taib, who has been recommended by the incumbent Mukah MP Tan Sri Dr Leo Michael Toyad Abdullah to replace him in the forthcoming general election, is leaving her fate to the good hands of the Barisan Nasional ( BN) leaders
“I do not want and I cannot confirm anything because it is not my place to confirm and not my place to say anything.
“Whether I will be the one or not it is not my shot to call,” she said during a tea party to celebrate World Stroke Day and 10th anniversary celebration of Laila Stroke Rehabilitation Centre at Bormill Estate, here yesterday.
“I leave it to the good hands of the state leaders because I am sure they will choose the one who will bring the best of things for the people. This is important,” she added.
She said she could only pray and whoever is best to serve the people would be chosen.
“Political candidates are chosen by the people...that is why we have elections and voting seasons.”
The issue of her candidacy was disclosed by Tellian assemblyman Yussibnosh Balo on Wednesday, saying that incumbent Mukah MP Tan Sri Dr Leo Michael Toyad had recently informed his constituents that a new candidate would be fielded in the Melanau-majority seat.
Yussibnosh also said Dr Leo had indicated that he would not be defending his seat and that he ( Dr Leo) has recommended Dato Hanifah Hajar Taib to replace him.
Hanifah, 44, is the youngest child of Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.
She has been active on the ground through charitable bodies and non-governmental organisations, notably Pertubuhan Kebajikan Islam Malaysia ( Perkim) of which she is the state chairperson.
