Sasa gets RM10,000 boost for internatio­nal armwrestli­ng tourney

KUCHING: The Housing and Local Government Ministry has pledged RM10,000 in sponsorshi­p for the Internatio­nal Premier 101 Charity Armwrest l ing Tournament.

Its minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian announced this during a cour tesy cal l on him by Sarawak Armsports Associatio­n ( Sasa) executive commit tee members led by its president Matthew Dominic Barin at his office at Wisma Bapa Malaysia in Petra Jaya recently.

The Jan 19- 20 tournament is coorganise­d by Sasa and Premier 101 Community Club.

World armwrestli­ng champion Devon Larrat from Canada is expected to make an appearance at the tournament, to be held at Premier 101 Commercial Centre.

Armwrestle­rs from Pakistan, India, China, Taiwan, The Philippine­s, Singapore, Korea, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand and Russia among others have confirmed their participat­ion.

Also present were Sasa advisor Datuk Seri Teng Chi Lik and deputy president Stephen Kee.

Ac c or d i n g t o Ke e , the tournament i s a potentia l tourist attraction­s and set to contribute to the economy in the tourism and hospitalit­y sector here.

It would also serves as a prelude to the proposed Armwrestli­ng World Cup Championsh­ip 2019 in Sarawak, Kee added.

Meanwhi le, Sasa wil l pay a courtesy cal l on Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah on Dec 14.
