Rude shock for couple who sends car for gas tank check

-

MIRI: A woman and her husband were shocked to learn from their mechanic that somebody had been stealing fuel from their car.

The couple from Piasau Garden here initially thought that the tank was leaking.

“We last filled the tank on Monday and had not gone anywhere up till Wednesday. As we got into the car, we saw that the light on the fuel gauge was blinking, which was puzzling,” she told reporters here yesterday.

Nonetheless, they thought nothing of it and went on to do some errands, before stopping at a petrol station to refuel on their way back home that day.

“But on Thursday morning, we saw the fuel gauge blinking again – indicating that the tank was near empty, which was strange because we filled up right before heading home the evening before. My husband thought that the tank was leaking, so we decided to take the car up for repairs,” the woman said.

Upon inspection at the workshop, the mechanic told the couple that there was nothing wrong with the tank – except that there signs that somebody was stealing the fuel.

“We’re stunned upon hearing what the mechanic said. We always park the car outside the house compound as there is no other space inside,” she said.

The couple later shared this shocking discovery with their son, who then conducted the night watch beginning Thursday He had not seen anything suspicious, the woman said.

“Earlier today (yesterday), my son went to our car and was surprised to see a container underneath the car tank – there was fuel in it.

“We believe that either the culprit forgot to collect the container, or he realised that he was being watched,” the woman said, adding that her son had contacted police regarding the incident.
