MIRI: The Immigration Department will continue to work closely with the local community to help them understand their policy better.

Its director general Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali said corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme was one of ways to engage the public with them.

“Through CSR programme, we have the opportunity to talk with the local residents, especially their leaders, and listen to their problems.

“The programmes also gives us a chance to tell them about our policy, and to clarify any matter regarding our policy they do not fully understand,” he told reporters at their CSR programme here yesterday.

The programme was held at the department’s detention depot in Bekenu, which was also attended by state Immigration director Ken Leben and its Miri chief Mohamad Osman.

“We are very happy with the response from the village and longhouse chiefs. We will continue to hold engagement sessions like this in the future,” he said.

Mustafar said the department, together with a company having a concession with the department, built a volleyball court at the depot for use by the staff and the detainees.

The CSR programme was part of Mustafar’s one-day working visit to Miri. He visited the Sungai Tujuh Immigration Complex in the morning.
