-

KUCHING: Entertainer and entrepreneur Dr Jessie Chung will star in the lead role of ‘Music Box’ – a charity play to raise funds for cancer patients.

A press release said it is inspired by the true story of a teenage girl’s experience with romance, friendship, and family in 18th century England. ‘Music Box’ also incorporates Chung’s life journey and three relationships.

Produced by Future Entertainment and Music Group Australia, and organised by the Malaysia Naturopathic Association (MNA), ‘Music Box’ began in Malaysia on Friday.

The subsequent shows at Symphony Theatre, Shah Alam, will be on Dec 19, 21, 23, and 30, as well Jan 6 and 13, and Feb 3.

‘Music Box’ will also be at the Johor Tourism Information Centre on Jan 20 and Penang Performing Arts Centre on Jan 27-28. Tickets for the first six shows have sold out, with all the remaining shows having sold 80 per cent of tickets.

‘Music Box’ will be staged in Miri on March 3, Bintulu (March 7), Sibu (March 10), Kuching (March 16-17) and in Sabah on April 14.

It will also be held in Taiwan on March 31 and April 1, Hong Kong on April 8, and Singapore on April 21. There also are plans to bring the play to Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Thailand, India, United States of America, Europe, China and Australia.

The press release said Chung is ecstatic to be involved in ‘Music Box’, which aims to spread positive messages, especially to the younger generation.

Chung, who won second place in an international stage play competition, began acting in plays at age 13 at Chung Hua Middle School No. 1 here.

“For the ‘Music Box’ stage play, I have to keep myself physically and mentally fit in order to effectively play out my character. In fact, all of the performers are giving their all for their respective characters.

“This was evident in our first show last night (Friday), where I got myself injured after I fell during one of the acts. But I persevered on, because I want to make the audience really enjoy the show. They deserve to enjoy a good show while at the same time contributing to charity,” Chung said when contacted.

In Malaysia, tickets for the three-hour play are priced at RM300, RM120, RM80, RM50, and RM30.
