Outgoing Sibu Resident proud of Sibu’s unity
SIBU: Outgoing Sibu Resident Hii Chang Kee, who will serve as Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports permanent secretary from next month, is proud of the level of unity here.
Hii, who has served as Sibu Resident since October 2015, said there is good interaction between Sibu’s communities of different races and religions.
“I think I am happy with the improved communication and interaction because right now, whatever festival or religious activity, it becomes automatic for them (those celebrating) to invite the other religions and races to join the celebration – it has become a culture and practice here,” he told thesundaypost yesterday.
He also noted the strong cooperation and teamwork among various government departments in the division.

are proactive in terms of tourism and community activities – this should be continued. Community cohesion and community spirit as well as a sense of belonging – I think these are all the things that happen in Sibu,” he said.
He added that as the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports has all the while helped with tourism here, he would continue such efforts in his new position.
“I will try my best to work very closely with Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah not only in tourism aspects but also in sports especially, when we are facing the 2018 Malaysia Games (Sukma) in Perak.
“Our target is to become champion for Sukma in Perak next year. And also many upcoming international tournaments either sports, culture or tourism,” Hii said.
He also thanked Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani for their confidence in him.
Hii received his letter of appointment last week. Prior to his appointment as Sibu Resident, Hii served as Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) secretary.
