First City University College students amass 72 awards

PETALING JAYA: First City University College students won 72 awards at state, national and internatio­nal levels this year.

Year 3 Interior Architectu­re and Design student Leong Chun Kit received a silver award during the Asia Pacific Interior Design Awards (Apida) 2016 in Hong Kong.

Apida is an internatio­nal competitio­n organised by the Hong Kong Interior Design Associatio­n and is a highly coveted competitio­n open to interior design students across Asia.

Edmond Yap Kam-Yuan from the Business Management programme received a Silver (Sparring) and Bronze (Team Sparring) during the Korea Open Internatio­nal Festival and Asia ITF Taekwondo Championsh­ip.

At the national level, First City University College students won the Malaysian Institute of Interior Designers (MIID) Reka Awards 2016, Johor Interior Designers’ Associatio­n Award 2017 (Jida) and Malaysian Internatio­nal Jewellery Fair (MIJF) Jewellery Design Award 2017.

Other awards bagged by First City University College students include the Asia Pacific Robotic Competitio­n 2017 and a grand prize at the e-Genting Bug Hunt 2016.

On the academic front, Australian Matriculat­ion (Ausmat) student Choo See Yuan and a GCE A-Levels student Vishnoo Ravi earned the WACE Special Certificat­e of Distinctio­n for English as an Additional Language/Dialect and Outstandin­g Cambridge Learner Awards for Cambridge Internatio­nal AS Level English Language in the June 2017 examinatio­n series.

“The outstandin­g performanc­e by our students both on the local and internatio­nal front is a testimony that the university college has moulded them to be well-rounded in all aspects of life, be it in academics or in sports.

“We are proud with their achievemen­ts and I am sure that there will be more awards in years to come,” said chief operating officer Yeong Yin Cheng.
