BEM brings cheer to children’s home
MIRI: Residents of Miri Methodist Children’s Home yesterday had a fun time and received some loving attention from members of the Borneo Evangelical Mission (BEM) Glory Permy during a preChristmas visit.
Led by the church founder, Pastor Datin Rosmaida S Justin, the visitors brought along Christmas gifts for the ‘little ones’ and played several games with 16 children at the home, of which the staff and their children were also present. The visitors provided lunch. In her remarks, Rosmaida talked about love for one another as a way to please God.
“It’s not enough to only serve God to the extent that we neglect our fellow human beings. Although we cannot expect perfect results in all that we do, at least we can try.
“Based on this belief, we come here to show that we care for the children; we want to spread the Christmas message of love – that God loves us so much that He sent His only Son so that we may have eternal life,” she said.
Miri Methodist Children’s Home education advisor and administrator Mezuen Nyilek thanked Rosmaida and her team for the visit, saying that they boosted the morale of the children.
“We welcome community support in all aspects, including religious talks. The children here need love and care, as well as education and spiritual development. On our own, we can only do little but together, we can achieve more.
“Most of the children here come from poor families – some are orphans, some were abandoned by their parents; being left without personal documents,” Mezuen told thesundaypost.
She disclosed that some parents and guardians simply dumped their children at the home, ‘expecting wonders’.
“Visit them to show your love; don’t just them dump them here, and hardly visit them for years,” she appealed.
Mequen said the non-profit organisation would welcome financial help for its upkeeping, including to cover the expenses for the children and staff salary.
