Sarikei District Council recognised for excellent performance
SARIKEI: This year has been an eventful and great year for Sarikei District Council (SDC) in terms of performance and achievement, said its secretary, Henry Jalin Wat.
SDC implemented 10 programmes and 50 development projects this year which earned them recognition from the state government.
”We had just received the good news from the State Secretary’s Office that SDC had been awarded the Certificate of Distinction and won third place in the State Public Service Excellent Awards (Local Government category),” Henry announced in his speech in conjunction SDC’s 2017 Appreciation Night held at Sarikei Central Market Hall last Thursday.
The programmes included social development and maintenance of facilities while the development projects comprised Rural Poverty Eradication, Rural Transformation and others planned under the 11th Malaysia Plan.
He said they had also embarked on community empowerment projects such as Food Fest and People’s Carnival with some under Local Agenda 21 programmes to benefit the local community including SDC staff.
He attributed the recognition from the state government to the efforts of SDC staff and councillors, including those retired or transferred to other stations.
Henry specially mentioned former SDC secretary Noraisah Morshidi for her role in the implementation of several projects which she handed over to them to complete before she left.
He hoped SDC staff and councillors would not be complacent with their achievements, but strive to do better in the coming years.
During the function, SDC chairperson Wong Zee Yeng who was guest-of-honour presented certificates of appreciation to all staff and councillors, including Exemplary Employee Award won by Lu King Kiong, and The Best Out of the Best Councillors Award won by Abang Ibrahim Abang Kipni.
Several members of the local press received certificates of appreciation from Zee Yeng during the function.
Among those present was deputy SDC chairman Awangku Ibrahim Awang Husain.
