Private sectors play major role in football devt — Miri FA chief

MIRI: Private and corporate sectors can play a major role in football developmen­t and it can spur the sport to a higher level.

Miri Division Football Associatio­n (Miri FA) president Mohamad Saif Jubaidi said sponsorshi­ps such as that from Lea Sports Centre (LSC) Sdn Bhd and Sylmax HCS Sdn Bhd has helped in developing the sport in the division.

“Miri FA would like to express our gratitude to LSC and Sylmax for agreeing to sponsor the MiriLSC Football League 2017.

“I am very happy because this is the first time we secured the sponsorshi­p from LSC and I believe that the league will uplift the standard of football in Miri apart from creating more interest among the youth in the sport,” he told reporters at a press conference at LSC branch at Imperial Mall here yesterday.

Eight teams namely LBR Miri, Wisma RSC, PGA, IPD, Maritim, Permy Galaxy, OU FC and Perdanaku are competing in the Miri-LSC League which kicked off in September.

After months of highly competitiv­e matches, LBR Miri and Wisma RSC will face off in the final today at Petroleum Recreation­al Club field at Lutong at 3pm.

“Both teams have highly capable players who have together achieved momentous victory in the recently concluded Sarawak Cup.

“It is hoped that with the presence of such competitio­n (Miri-LSC League), it will help our players to prepare for future competitio­ns including the national level of the Liga Bolasepak Rakyat to be held early next year,” he added.

Sibuti MP Datuk Ahmad Lai Bujang and Piasau assemblyma­n Datuk Sebastian Ting are expected to attend and officiate at the final.

Also present at the conference were LSC operations manager Olga Reggie, senior merchandis­ing manager Alice Kho, retail manager (Miri) Yek Su Ling, Sylmax representa­tives Mohd Affif Dahani and Nurul Widaya Sili and representa­tives of both LBR Miri and Wisma RSC teams.
