Shu Qi takes a break to recover from skin allergies

TAIPEI: Taiwanese actress Shu Qi shocked everyone with her Weibo post recently.

Her message, “Destroyed! Temporarily saying farewell to my life as an actor. Thank you for your love. We will meet again”, sent fans into a frenzy, with many concerned that the 41-year-old actress may be pregnant and is planning to retire. (Shu Qi married actor Stephen Fung last year).

However, the actress clarified that she is not planning to retire. Instead, she has actually been suffering from skin allergies the past year and continues to battle irritated skin rashes on her face. The doctor had advised her to take a break from work and focus on resting and recovering. Shu Qi explained that she is merely taking a break. After recovering, she plans to resume her acting career.

Shu Qi, who is known for her youthful appearance, has always struggled with her skin allergies, which tends to flare up whenever she’s busy or stressed, causing her face to break out in red spots and swell.

Although Shu Qi attempted to cover up the bandages on her face with a face mask, spectacles and a cap, the bandages were still visible, causing her to look like a mummy. Shu Qi then made light of the situation by posing playfully with a “rock” handsign.

Her fans immediately left consoling comments on her post once they saw the picture, with some who couldn’t help but to ask the actress, “Are you sure you can see where you’re going,” with some dubbing her bandages as “the best anti-paparazzi shield”.

Even her fellow celebrity friends couldn’t help but to join in, with Taiwanese singer-actor Richie Ren and Taiwanese singer-actress Vivian Hsu playfully asking, “Who are you?” on her post.
