Engineering tomorrow at Heriot-Watt University

-

RECENTLY named the International University of the Year by The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018, Heriot-Watt University is renowned for being a global university that provides quality education and enriching student experiences with opportunities to study abroad seamlessly.

In celebrating this prestigious award, Heriot-Watt University Malaysia is granting those who enrol for its January 2018 intake a free two-week study trip to its Edinburgh campus via its Experience Edinburgh programme (contingent on terms and conditions).

Anyone interested in this programme is encouraged to register by Dec 22, 2017 to qualify.

Alongside this, the university also offers its students the opportunity to transfer to any of its other campuses in the UK and Dubai through the Go Global programme as long as their programme is offered at their campus destination.

According to Heriot-Watt University Malaysia’s CEO and Provost, Professor Mushtak Al-Atabi, this is made possible due to the close working relationship between campuses and its one-university approach.

He said: “All of the programmes offered here in Malaysia are identical to the ones offered in the UK and Dubai campuses. The same course leader oversees the courses offered globally, therefore providing students with a seamless experience whenever they transfer to any of the campuses.”

A Chemical Engineering student at Heriot-Watt University Malaysia, Hiew Jen Han expressed, “The study environment, the students and lecturers here are very welcoming and warm. If you are looking for a good setting for learning – to improve and excel in your results – this is the place.”

Studying for a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering at Heriot-Watt University Malaysia’s campus, Hiew Jen Han, noted how Heriot-Watt’s programmes benefit its students in terms of building industrial links: “Visiting industrial sites during our first year gave us the opportunity to talk to the experts in the field.

For example, we got to observe and meet the specialists at the Linde Group. Field trips like these allow us to understand the industry and deepen operational knowledge for internship later.”Jen Han considers himself well-equipped for his career ahead.

“I believe the course structure and all our lecturers help us develop and cultivate the creativity to design, come up with new ideas and envision ways to present our ideas,” he said.

Heriot-Watt University was ranked among the top 50 universities in the world for international outlook according to the World University Rankings 2018. In addition, it is also fifth in the UK for Chemical Engineering based on The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018.
