Wong: Political inclination won’t affect contributions
SIBU: The Rancangan Sibu 1 (RS1) team will make contributions to all longhouses in Bawang Assan constituency irrespective of their political inclination, RS1 head Dato Andrew Wong said.
He said the contributions, mostly in the form of canopies, foldable tables and plastic chairs, would be given to all 102 longhouses in the constituency.
“We will give away this contribution whether you are supporting SUPP, PRS, PDP, PBB or DAP. This is because all of you are Malaysians and ‘anak Sarawak’ as well as ‘anak Sibu’. Thus the government of the day must safeguard all the people regardless of their political background. We will not care who you support,” he said when addressing the participants of a community programme held at Rumah Dawi Ringgil, Passai here recently.
Temenggong Stanley Geramong, Pemanca James Semilan, Penghulu Jeffery Sut, Penghulu Evelyn Holly Sebom, RS1 deputy chairman Andrew Shilling and UPP’s likely candidate for the coming general election Andrew Ting were among those present.
RS1 has expended RM500,000 for 167 canopies, 296 foldable tables and 3,000 plastic chairs which are being distributed in two phases.
Wong, who is tipped to be UPP’s most likely candidate for Sibu parliamentary seat, said he hopes to get a chance to contest in the coming general election as his father, Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh, has entrusted him the duty to safeguard

the interests of longhouses in Bawang Assan constituency. The senior Wong is Bawang Assan assemblyman.
“You must remember who has enabled him ( Soon Koh) to be the people’s representative in Bawang Assan more than two decades. He has the support of longhouse folks,” the junior Wong said.
Shilling, who also spoke, hoped the residents of 15 longhouses in Passai and Lubok Pelaie would vote in full force for the Barisan Nasional ( BN) candidate in the coming general election.
In the last general election in 2013, the votes given to BN’s candidate at SK Sungai Passai was 83 per cent. In the state election that followed, the support for BN in the area increased for 85 per cent.
“If Andrew Wong contests under the BN ticket, the votes at SK Passai would be further increased to 90 per cent,” he said with confidence.
Shilling also disclosed that development projects worth more than RM1 million had been allocated by the ‘ wakil rakyat’ for the benefit of the residents in Passai and Lubok Pelaie.
