PDP man reiterates call for parents to closely monitor children’s activities

-

SIBU: It cannot be stressed enough that parents must monitor their children’s activities so as to prevent them from getting involved in unhealthy activities, especially drug abuse.

Progressive Democratic Party ( PDP) Central Region vicechairman Councillor Teo Boon Siew believes that the secondary school is the most crucial time for parents to be aware of what their children are doing, or who their friends are.

“We must be more cautious when they ( children) begin secondary school because that is the time when they are easily influenced by their peers.

“Nowadays, drug abuse happen anywhere and, we as parents must be more stringent in monitoring our children’s movement,” he spoke at the opening of the Christmas Festival and Funfair 2017 at old airport site here recently. Boon Siew also advised parents not to pamper their children too much because this could spoil them.

“We must love our children, but too much pampering would make the children go out of control – they would become stubborn and not respect their elders,” he said.

Meanwhile the funfair, which is running until Dec 31, is held by the Youth and Women’s sections of PDP Central Region for the first time. Boon Siew said the initiative is meant to offer leisure and entertainment to the public, given the long year- end holiday.

In this regard, he encouraged parents to make use of the holiday to be with their children.

“Come to the funfair – have fun with your children and spend quality time with them.”

PDP Central Region chairman Datuk Lau Cheng Kiong and event organising chairman Councillor Teo Ming Lung were among those witnessing the opening ceremony.
