Popular’s Mega Bookfair returns, with more exciting offers and activities

KUCHING: Popular Malaysia will be holding its ‘Mega Bookfair’ at CityONE Exhibition Centre here from this Dec 22 to Jan 1 next year.

This year’s fair marks the fourth edition of the largest trilingual – English, Chinese and Bahasa Malaysia – book showcase in the state.

Throughout the Mega Bookfair, visitors will be able to enjoy offers from as low as RM5 on more than 120 selected items, ranging from books to gadgets. The special prices will vary each day.

Those who purchase a minimum of RM60 on a single day will also stand for the ‘purchasewi­th-purchase’ deals comprising savings up to 50 per cent off selected utensils and gadgets; those with a minimum purchase of RM80 in a single receipt on a single day will receive RM20 worth of Popular vouchers – consisting of two RM5 vouchers that could be redeemed at any Popular Kuching outlets, and a RM10 ‘Bonus Treats’ voucher.

The Bonus Treats voucher is only applicable at the Bonus Treats Counter of the Mega Bookfair – it is valid only on the date of issuance with purchase of any selected item at the counter.

For visitors with a minimum purchase of RM150 in a single receipt on a single day, they will receive two fancy notebooks of their choice for free – while stocks last.

There will also be special deals on selected products for Popular Privilege Card members during the Mega Bookfair. For new members or those renewing their three-year card membership, they stand to get a range of premium gifts including a Popular-exclusive multi-purpose bag, while those applying for or renewing their one-year card membership will each receive a multi- function stylus pen.

There will be a host of fun-filled activities at this year’s Mega Bookfair – one of the highlights is the ‘Little Eco Warriors’ recycling carnival, based on the comic book ‘ Little Eco Warriors’ published exclusivel­y by Popular Malaysia earlier this year.

The comic narrates the adventures of a group of youngsters, who band together to save Planet Earth from pollution.

Another event from children will be ‘A Green Earth Begins with Me’ colouring contest on Christmas Eve, running from 11am to 1pm ( Category A for five- to eight-year- olds) and 3pm5pm ( Category B for nine- to 12year- olds). A registrati­on fee of RM5 applies and registrati­on can be done at Popular outlets in Everrise BDC Complex, Boulevard Shopping Mall, CityONE Megamall, Tun Jugah Centre, or Matang Mall. Apart from that, there will also be a ‘ Book Cover Design Calligraph­y Competitio­n’ on Christmas Day, co-organised with stationery brand Pentel. It starts with a free workshop running from noon to 2pm for participan­ts, before the actual competitio­n time from 3pm to 4.30pm.

In line with Christmas, Popular Malaysia will also be holding a ‘Christmas Gift Bank Charity Campaign’, which encourages members of the public to purchase gifts from the Mega Bookfair or any Popular outlet here for the children under the Orphans Welfare Organisati­on of Malaysia (Peryatim) here.

The campaign comprises two phases – the first runs till Dec 21 at any Popular outlet across the city, whilst the second will kick off this Dec 22 and run till Jan 1 next year during the Popular Mega Bookfair. Every donor will also be rewarded with two RM5 Popular vouchers – subject to terms and conditions.
