Grow plants at state library community farm, public urged
KUCHING: Sarawak state library encourages all members of the public to grow plants at its community garden, under the ‘Community Farming Programme’.
According to the state library’s chief executive office Rashidah Bolhassan, this is an activity that encourages the community to grow local fruit trees, vegetables, herbs and other plants.
“It also encourages participation in the development of land for good purposes,” she said at the launch of the programme here yesterday.
Adding on, Rashidah said the programme also serves as an alternative socioeconomic model of agriculture and food distribution — one that allows the sense of sharing amongst the participants from the community.
“It encourages members of the public to learn more about home gardening and contribute to our initiative to beautify the library’s park and make it more vibrant.
“It is also the state library’s effort in promoting healthy lifestyle through physical activities as well as good mental health,” she said.
Those interested can bring their own seedlings and saplings, gardening tools and fertiliser when visiting the state library’s Community Garden.
There is no charge, but available plots are limited.
The state library is also seeking organisations or individuals to adopt a section of the park.
