Jamit rallies support for Nanta among Chinese community
KAPIT: Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit has advised the Chinese community here to unite and give their undivided support to incumbent Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi, who has been re-nominated to defend the Kapit parliamentary seat for Barisan Nasional ( BN) in the 14th general election (GE14).
Speaking at a dialogue with committee members of SUPP Kapit branch led by newly- elected chairman Ling Thiam Ing at a restaurant here recently, he told those present that every vote counts to ensure a big win for BN.
“I appeal to Chinese in this town to give him full support this time because this is important to deliver a clear message to top BN leadership that Kapit is a BN stronghold. When the government sees that we are strong supporters of BN, they will reciprocate by delivering more development to Kapit,” he said.
Among the about 30 people attending the dialogue were SUPP Kapit chairman Ling Thian Ing, deputy chairman Dato Yong Hua Sying, vice chairman Chu Sing Lung, secretary David Wong Hau Ching, treasurer Loh Tie Ung and advisor Pemanca Yong Thu Fook. Commenting on the lineup of the SUPP committee for the 2018-2020 term, Jamit said it is a good combination of the old and new members.
“Iamhappyyouhadaverysmooth election of the new committee. It comprises old and new members, so those experienced can share their knowledge with the new members. What is important is your presence must be felt. I call upon you to fully cooperate and work with the elected people’s representatives, government departments, community leaders and also the grassroots. In politics, teamwork is very important. In future, SUPP can join other BN component parties like PBB to organise activities. As elected representative, I will definitely give you the support,” he stressed.
Another reason why they need to support the BN candidate, he pointed out, is because Kapit needs more development.
“Since Datuk Nanta became the MP and especially when he was appointed Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development in 2013, he had implemented many infrastructure and amenity projects to enhance the standard of living of the local people. However, we are hungry for development and we need more development to catch up with other urban centres. In order to ensure uninterrupted development, the pre-requisite is people must be united and support the BN government besides ensuring continuity of leadership.
“In this light, I appeal to all Chinese community leaders, leaders of the Chinese associations, clubs and also elders to cooperate and work closely with SUPP to explain to fellow Chinese why they need to support the BN candidate in the coming election. We must let the young generation understand the reality and who is capable of bringing development to Kapit,” he added.
