Resolve school rows by consensus — Chong

KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Education hopes any dispute occurring at school, especially between students and teachers, will be resolved by consensus rather than by taking the matter to court.

Deputy Minister Datuk Chong Sin Woon said this could be done by having a consensus committee at school, which would also function as the platform for discussions.

“Through this committee, we will call both parties, namely the teacher and parents of the student involved, for a peaceful discussion.

“But, let’s not take school issues to court because it will not help create a conducive learning environment,” he told reporters after officiating the closing of the Fight Crime For School Campaign here yesterday.

The deputy minister said this in response to the case involving a primary school teacher known as Teacher Azizan in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan, who would be charged in court today for taking stern disciplinary actions against one of his pupils who was allegedly caught for truancy and bullying cases.

Chong also reminded all teachers that any disciplinary action taken against students should not violate any rules and regulations stated in the circulars issued by the ministry. — Bernama
