6 villages get floating device to fight fire
LIMBANG: The floating firefighting facility, provided by the iM Sarawak under its community programme for riverine villages along Limbang River, will help to address fire cases, loss of lives and properties in areas which are inaccessible by road.
Limbang MP Hasbi Habibollah said fire cases were major threats to these villagers as it is difficult for firefighters to reach them by land except by boats.
“Thus the floating fire-fighting facilities for six riverine villages in Limbang are the way forward to address fire cases in these remote areas that are only accessible using boats.
“These facilities benefit more than 2,000 village folks, which could be operated by the villagers themselves in the event of fire outbreaks before the arrival of fire personnel” he said at the handing over of the floating fire fighting facility at Kampung Pengkalan Rejab here yesterday.
Also present were Deputy Limbang District officer Hamidah Halpi, Limbang Zone Fire chief Edmund Dmahai Emboh, iM Sarawak representative Dennis See and acting headman of Kampung Pengkalan Rejab Abdul Rahman Bakar.
The six villages are Kampung Merajang, Merambut, Tanjung Unggar, Buang Abai, Kuala Berawan and Pengkalan Rejab.
Hasbi urged villagers including women folks to maintain the fire- fighting facility besides improving their skills to use the facility.

The floating fire- fighting facility is capable of pumping 70 gallons of water from the river to ensure continuous water supply for dousing the fire.
Hasbi, who is also a member of the iM Sarawak advisory board, said the organisation is actively conducting community projects since 2013 which brought sustainable benefits to the people of Sarawak.
“In the last four years, iM Sarawak has successfully implemented and launched programmes in rural schools, providing infrastructure such as water supply, micro hydro and fire extinguishing systems as well as sports facilities and programmes for youths.”
