Floods claim first victim in S’wak
Teacher drowned in swift flood waters after getting out of stalled car driven by her husband
LIMBANG: A 52 - year- old primary school teacher, Norsiah Yusok, drowned after the car driven by her husband, was swept off the road by swift flood waters at Jalan Batu Danau, Kampung Bakol in Limbang at 2.50am yesterday.
The couple were on their way from Tedungan to Limbang town when their car stalled in the flood waters.
Limbang District police chief Superintendent Mohd Bukhori Saffai told the press that they were able to get out of the car but Norsiah was swept away by the raging flood water while her husband, Duroh Sinjan, 54, managed to swim to safety.
“The couple managed to get out from the car. Duroh managed to swim to safety but Norsiah is believed to have been dragged and swept away by the strong current,” he said.
A search and rescue operation was mounted by the Limbang Fire and Rescue Station at 3.50am after receiving a distress call from her husband.

the car was swept off the road.
The body was brought to Limbang Hospital mortuary around 10.40am.
It had been raining heavily since Tuesday morning till late night in Limbang resulting in f looding in areas around Kampung Tegarai, Kampung Tabahan, Kampung Pundut, Kamput Berawan, Kampung Sungai Poyan, SK Ulu Lubai and Kampung Sembiling.
The incessant rain which coincided with high tide had also caused other areas in the northern region of the state to be flooded in the last several days.
