Couple’s attacker under remand
MIRI: A man arrested for allegedly assaulting and injuring a husband and wife was ordered by the magistrate’s court yesterday to be remanded for three days to facilitate police investigations.
The suspect, 43, from Desa Senadin here was ordered to be remanded at Miri Central Police Station lock-up in accordance with Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
According to investigating officer, Inspector Nur Hasanah Jamil, the suspect was arrested at the roadside of Chia Tze Chin Road here around 11.35am on Tuesday ( Dec 19).
Police seized a spanner from the suspect as exhibit.
The arrest was made after a woman lodged a police report at Lutong Police Station on Dec 19.
In her report, the complainant, 40, said when she and her husband sent a friend to his home in Kampung Pulau Melayu at around 12.30pm on Dec18, the brother-in-law of that friend suddenly assaulted her husband (the complainant) with a spanner, which he used to hit him on the right calf.
The assailant injured her right hand when she tried to stop him attacking her husband.
Nur Hasanah in her application said the four- day remand for the suspect was to enable police to conduct a detailed investigation of the case, and as the police need time to record the suspect’s communication and witnesses, as well as obtain the medical report on the victims.
Magistrate Zuraini Ali Musa granted a three- day remand of the suspect until Dec 23.
