Voon: 500,000 Sarawakians yet to register as voters

-

KUCHING: There are about 500,000 eligible voters in Sarawak who have yet to register as voters, said PKR Women national vice president Voon Shiak Ni, citing figures obtained through a survey conducted by the party.

Thus Voon, who is also PKR Stampin branch vice- chairperson, called on Sarawakians who are 21 years and above to register as voters.

“If you’re concerned about the state of affairs of your country and how it can affect your daily life and the future of your children, do make an effort to register yourself as a voter,” she said in a press conference here yesterday.

Voon pointed out that a nongovernmental organisation (NGO) Rise of Sarawak Efforts ( ROSE), led by Ann Teo, has been putting efforts almost every weekend to register voters.

“We hope that all Sarawakians can register as voters and realise the importance of casting their votes.”

She noted that many chose to use the Internet and social media as a platform to vent their dissatisfaction about issues such as rising cost of living, petrol price hike, weakening of ringgit and wastages and leakages of public funds.

“If you’re not satisfied with the present state of affairs, do something about it. Living in frustration and anger is not a solution to your problems.

“All of us have the power to make a difference together that is by casting our votes in the next general election,” she commented.
