Kenyalang Park to host annual CNY market

-

KUCHING: The annual Chinese New Year festive market will return to Kenyalang Park Commercial Centre on Feb 2-15.

Kuching South City Council (MBKS) councillor Patrick Gordan Song said the organising team is taking every measure to ensure the market is run well.

“It will run for two weeks until the eve of Chinese New Year. There will be about 250 stalls with all kinds of festive goodies from food to decorations,” he told a press conference after the MBKS full council meeting yesterday.

“Moreover, we will be getting more Rela ( People’s Volunteer Corps) members and MBKS enforcement officers down there to control and direct the traffic and ease any congestion, especially when it nears the Chinese New Year.”

Acting city secretary Tay Guan Huat urged operators and traders to practise a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene.

“Don’t indiscriminately throw rubbish, scattering it everywhere. Large bins will be provided. So we hope the stall operators will collaborate with us to keep the good image and atmosphere there,” he said.

To date, 247 application forms for stalls have been taken.

Forms can still be obtained from the MBKS One Stop Service Counter D at the MBKS lobby, Jalan Padungan.

All application forms must be submitted to Counter D by 4pm on Jan 16.

Late applications will not be entertained.

The fee per stall measuring 4’ x 8’ is RM110 for the public and RM60 for shop owners or tenants of Kenyalang Commercial Centre.

The stalls will be allocated on a first come, first served basis to those who meet the eligibility criteria.

Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian is expected to launch the festive market.
