‘New LKIM complex set to boost fisheries devt in Tg Bako’
KUCHING: The Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority (LKIM) complex, which is already up and running, should be able to serve as the catalyst for bigger development in Tanjong Bako.
According to Demak Laut assemblyman Dr Hazland Abang Hipni, the Tanjong Bako Fisheries Complex – touted at the biggest of its kind in the state – would pave the way for the proposed development of the first integrated fishermen community here.
“Owing to its strategic location, I believe that the fishermen across Demak Laut should capitalise on the facility, utilising it to its fullest potential,” he said, adding that an area near the complex has been identified as being suitable for the development of the integrated fishermen community, having the potential capacity to accommodate about 400 house units.
Dr Hazland was speaking at the presentation of Cost of Living Allowance (Cola) to local fishermen at Dewan Mesra Kampung Bako Hijrah recently.
On another matter, the assemblyman said the encroachment by foreign fishermen into Malaysian waters remains a challenge faced by the government.
