Thai training stint for six muaythai fighters

KUCHING: Six muaythai exponents from the state are currently undergoing special training in Thailand – an initiative run and funded under Sarawak State Sports Council ( MSNS).

According to MSNS muaythai coordinato­r Alexander Sirai Isau, the programme is meant to prepare these young athletes ahead of the 19th Malaysia Games ( Sukma), to be hosted by Perak next year.

“I remind the athletes to always bring their best every time they train.

“This programme is slated for them to enhance their skills and techniques.

“I hope t hat t hey wou ld continue to bring pride for Sarawak by being focused and discipline­d throughout the 10- day programme,” he told The Borneo Post in a statement on Tuesday.

The si x – P rat asa r the e Punniyamoo­r thy, Kabi lan Jelevan, Ayu Addyqa Azmi, Awangku Abdul Rahman Awang Marajaya, Maurien Hii Sie Lin and Ranti Niza Jina – together with their coach Mohd Adzan flew to Thailand last weekend.

They were sent off at Kuching Internatio­nal Airport by Sarawak Muaythai Associatio­n ( PMNS) president Jumaat Ibrahim.

According to Jumaat, the six youngsters are MSNS- selected junior athletes.

“I take this opportunit­y to thank MSNS and the Ministry (of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports) for their ongoing support for the sport and also for PMNS over the years.

“The officials are very dedicated in ensuring that all programmes related to muaythai would run smoothly,” he said.
