Flood: Two relief centres in Bintulu remain open, housing 30 evacuees

BINTULU: Two flood relief centres here are still operating, reports State Disaster Management Committee Secretaria­t.

As at 4pm yesterday, the shelter at Tatau Sports Centre was housing four families comprising 15 people, while Sebauh Community Hall had six families comprising 15 people. The relief centre in Kampung Jabai was closed at 2.50pm yesterday, as flood water receded.

Additional­ly, personnel from Tatau Fire and Rescue Department and other agencies distribute­d food and other supplies to the residents of Rumah Robert, Rumah Taa and Rumah Degup Ulu Kakus – all affected by floods.

In Belaga, agencies are still monitoring the f lood situation there, especially Rumah Sambop Long Semutut.

According to Belaga police head of crime prevention and community safety ASP Mohd Sani Junid, there is no evacuation done yet, but he cautions everyone that the water level continues to rise.

“We are still monitoring the situation with other relevant agencies, in case things become worse and we need to evacuate the residents later on,” he said when contacted.

Meanwhile, the state Education Department has released the list of schools affected by flooding.

Eleven schools across this division are affected namely SK Kuala Tatau, SK Kuala Serupai Tatau, SK Nanga Penyarai Tau, SK Rumah Tayai Tatau, SK Sungai Bagian Tatau, SK Kampung Nyalau, SK Hermanus Assan Sebauh, SK Kuala Sigu Sebauh, SK Pandan Sebauh, SK Kuala Kebulu Sebauh including SK Uma Sambop, Belaga.

In addition, eight health clinics here are still operating despite being affected by flooding — they are the Nyalau Health Clinic, Labang Health Clinic, Tubau Health Clinic, Tatau Health Clinic, Sangan Health Clinic and Kuala Tatau Health Clinic. The Kakus Health Clinic, however, is closed.
