PI1M aims to make more rural folk IT-savvy, says Jakar centre head

-

SARIKEI: The setting up of 1Malaysia Internet Centres ( PI1M) in the rural areas is meant to help the communities there keep abreast with all the developments associated with information and communication technology ( ICT).

According to PI1M Jakar chairman Tuai Rumah Setia Ungok, the centre has benefitted his community greatly.

He acknowledges the move as being in line with the government’s aspiration to narrow the digital gap between the urban and rural communities.

“With the availability of basic facilities like computer sets and Internet connectivity, as well as trained staff, PI1M Jakar has been helping the locals to slowly adapt to digital technology,” he spoke during PI1M Jakar committee’s annual general meeting recently.

Setia said he was glad to see that since its establishment about two years ago, PI1M Jakar had helped many underprivileged locals to become more computersavvy. “It should be understood that equipping people with IT knowledge is the government’s investment in human capital.”

Setia expressed his hope for the youths , especially the students, to make full use of the facilities and services provided at the PI1M, which could help them in their studies, applying for placements at universities and also jobs.

Meanwhile, PI1M Jakar maintained the committee same line-up for the 2018/2019 term.
