Love Run 2.0 to held on April 29 raises awareness of drug abuse

-

SIBU: Love Run 2.0 to be held on April 29 next year is aimed at giving greater awareness to the drug abuse menace, according to volunteer Loh Yu Yee.

She is targeting 3,500 participants for the run to raise RM150,000 for Victory Home to get a new building for its drug rehabilitation centre.

Victory Home is run by the Methodist Church. The Home’s current centre is in Sg Bidut.

Due to increasing demand, the Methodist Victory Home Committee has decided to build a new centre that can accommodate 100 inmates, which is about 70 more than the existing centre can take in.

Construction of the RM5 million new building is underway at Mile 9.5 Oya Road.

“After studying the social issues in Sibu, we believe it’s appropriate that Love Run 2.0 be made a charity run to help pay for the construction and give awareness to drug abuse.

“I have been in volunteer work for about 10 years. I’ve made a study, the results of which shows that many social ills and petty crimes stem from drug abuse,” she said.

On Love Run 2.0, Loh said volunteers, about 100 of them, have started to promote the event, mostly through social media like Facebook.

The run was launched at the end of last month.

“We’ve come up with a video featuring three characters. The central message of the video is that generally nobody is spared the temptation to abuse drugs,” she said.

Loh said promotion of the run will be carried out at Delta Mall here every weekend over the first three months of next year.
