Relevant bodies urged to take over gravel road
KUCHING: The residents of Kampung Bradau in Siburan, near here, are appealing to the relevant authorities to take over the gravel road leading to their village.
Crying foul over what they describe as an unending ‘road of potholes and puddles’ leading to their village, the residents said the company which operates a quarry there has failed to carry out its corporate social responsibility (CSR) on many occasions.
One resident, who declined to be named, said the company had promised to maintain the road more often.
“Normal- sized cars are taking a beating every day travelling along the road for more than 20 years.
“Only sometimes do they ( company) fill up the potholes, but those potholes and puddles will come back again as lorries loaded with gravel are damaging the road.
“The road now is in a very critical condition, but nothing is being done,” he lamented.

authorities should take over the road and tar-seal it to prevent the re- emergence of potholes.
He said should potholes appear again after the road has been tarsealed, the quarry company must then be held responsible for any subsequent road maintenance work.
He said the present road condition is really unbearable, especially for motorists who have to commute daily to work and vice versa.
“The potholes not only affect the road users’ travelling time, it results in them having to spend more on car and motorcycle maintenance,” said the resident, adding that the gravel road is the only road connecting the village, comprising 50 to 70 households, to the Kuching-Serian Road.
