Man nabbed for housebreak­ing; teenager held for motorbike theft

KUCHING: A man was arrested by police in connection with a break-in at a house in RPR Batu Kawa last year.

Padawan district police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan, who confirmed the matter, said the 29-year- old suspect was detained recently by a police team over the Oct 24 incident.

“The suspect led police to his house – also in RPR Batu Kawa – on Wednesday (Jan 10) where a stolen television was kept. This case is currently being investigat­ed under Section 457 of the Penal Code for housebreak­ing,” he told reporters yesterday.

According to Aidil, the homeowner lodged a police report after discoverin­g his house had been broken into via the rear door around 1am. Among the items reported stolen were a 42- inch television, gold jewellery, laptop, mobile phones, personal documents and about RM1,000 in cash.

In an unrelated case, Aidil revealed that a 17-year- old boy was arrested on Wednesday night for motorcycle theft.

“The arrest and seizure of the motorcycle took place at the parking lot of a mall in Siburan around 7pm during the Ops Lejang, which was carried out by a task force unit from Padawan police headquarte­rs,” he said, adding the machine had been fitted with false licence plates. The motorcycle was discovered stolen around 10pm on Dec 30 last year at Taman Bandar Baru Siburan.

“The suspect has admitted to committing the theft with a male accomplice whom we arrested a day earlier,” said Aidil.
