UPP traffic study nearing completion — Andrew Wong

SIBU: A traffic study covering six bottle- neck areas here is nearing completion.

United People’s Party ( UPP) Community Service Board Sibu chairman Dato Andrew Wong said a consultant tasked with carrying out the study will present the findings to the board this month.

“The result will later be submitted to either the Public Works Department or Sibu Municipal Council ( SMC) or the Ministry of Infrastructure ( Development and Transportation Sarawak),” he told The Borneo Post yesterday.

The six bottle- neck areas are UCTS roundabout, Deshon RoadTeng Chin Hua Road- Brooke Drive, Deshon Road- Ling Kai Cheng Road, Ulu Sungai Merah roundabout, Pedada Road- Oya Road-Wong King Huo Road, and Permai junction.

Last July, UPP Community Service Board Sibu infrastructure and development committee chairman Lau Chai Hing told reporters that the study costs about RM300,000 and would be fully borne by the board.

He pointed out the study was one of the exercises under Rancangan Sibu 1 ( RS1) spearheaded by Wong.

Separately, Wong said his side will continue to pursue the proposal for the 21st centurylook Sibu ‘ pasar malam’ (night market).

“Yes, we are definitely going to pursue this until SMC or the state government revives our Sibu ‘pasar malam’ to its former glory.

“I know they ( SMC) are doing some upgrading works at the present site of Sibu night market. Then, of course, if we see that Sibu ‘pasar malam’ goes back to its former glory, we will relook our plan,” he said.

Under the proposal, the market would have a ‘ 21st century look’ to attract the younger population.
