‘Road stretch needs regular maintenance’
KUCHING: Immediate maintenance work is needed at the stretch from Mile 11 to 15 of Kuching- Serian road, now undergoing upgrading work which is rather progressing very slowly.
State Parti Keadilan Rakyat ( PKR) vice chairman See Chee How said too many people had complained about the poor condition of the stretch of road.

“There are potholes and uneven surfaces even while construction work is taking place.
“If you don’t maintain it, it is bound to cause danger to road users, especially motorcyclists.
“Despite the upgrading works, this stretch of road experiences high traffic volume everyday and even during night time,” he told a news conference here yesterday.
See, who is Batu Lintang assemblyman, thus advised the authorities to put up temporary street lighting and more signages to alert road users.
He said the road from Mile 11 to 15 seemed to be the first package of the Pan Borneo Highway project and yet it’s progressing at a snail’s pace.
“I would like to urge the permanent secretary to the Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Transportation, who is also the project director of the Pan Borneo Highway to immediately schedule a visit to carry out a road defect assessment.”
He added that the ministry ought to recommend the necessary maintenance and rehabilitation works to that particular stretch of road given the heavy traffic volume in the area in order to bring down the number of accidents.
“Despite the assurance of the federal and state ministers that the various packages of the Pan Borneo Highway project are progressing well, the same cannot be said about the construction and widening of this stretch of the road which started more than two years ago,” he said.
See said not only did the progress appear to be slow but the work on the mentioned stretch seemed to have stalled in recent months.
He, therefore, appealed to the authorities to conduct regular supervisory visits to the various stretches of the road under the Pan Borneo Highway project to ensure the safety of road users.
